When the United Nations announced its Sustainable Development Goals, Volvo Cars was one of the first companies and one of only two automobile makers to join a Global Compact supporting it. The United Nations recently recognized Volvo Cars for its commitment as a LEAD member, a group of the most committed, engaged and ambitious companies within the Global Compact.

In July, Volvo Cars' president and chief executive Håkan Samuelsson announced a plan to make every Volvo car launched after 2019 electric in some form.

"We're doing this because we think this is the right future for Volvo Cars, and that it will make us stronger. It's sound business," said Samuelsson.

In the new strategy, Volvo Cars, will launch five fully electric vehicles between 2019 and 2021 including a range of plug-in hybrids and a mild-hybrid.
