If you have ever looked at one of those maps of the world if all of the ice-caps melted, you may have noticed... Florida isn't on it. While it may take hundreds of years for our entire state to vanish off the coast, predicted rates of sea-level rise put Fort Lauderdale, and even our more-inland Volvo dealership in Davie under the tides by the end of this century.
It's a spooky thought, and it's only driven home further by unseasonably fierce storms like the recent Hurricane Matthew disaster.
Preventing the worst consequences of climate change is still possible if we all make our best efforts to cut down on greenhouse emissions. For Volvo, that means becoming a member of Climate Savers, a World Wildlife Fund for Nature program.
Climate Savers participants agree to reduce their carbon-dioxide emissions by a significant amount, determined by the WWF. Whether or not Volvo reaches its target CO2 goals will be assessed by third-party experts.
Volvo has led the auto industry in environmental conservation before, starting with the introduction of oxygen sensors in 1976 that cut exhaust emissions by 90 percent. They can do it again.
