We’re a bit late in wishing the Volvo 850 it’s due congratulations because last month this iconic Volvo model celebrated its 25th anniversary. This is an important model, debuting a lot of Volvo- and world-firsts. It also gave rise to some very recognizable characters later on in Volvo’s lineup, so in the interest of respecting where we came from, here at Weston Volvo, we want to say a big congratulations to Volvo and a happy 25th birthday to the Volvo 850.

The Volvo 850 was making waves long before it entered the world of racing, but it was quite a shock to see the estate version of the 850 roll up to the starting line for the 1994 season premiere at the Thruxton track in south England. A year later, the 850 AWD rolled—the first Volvo model to see four-wheel drive. 1996 was the Volvo 850’s last production year, as the model underwent some major upgrades and eventually became the Volvo S70 (from the sedan version of the 850) and the Volvo V70 (from the estate version of the 850). Both models aren’t in production today, but a total of 1,360,522 cars were built in models originating from the 850 series. Here’s to looking back and reflecting on your roots!
