Yesterday, Volvo announced that its luxurious new utility vehicle, the XC90 was recognized yet again for setting a high bar in the premium SUV segment. Volvo is certainly no stranger to safety awards, and the latest accolades from the European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) serves as further proof of the company's dedication to innovation.

The XC90 scored 100 percent in the Safety Assist category, and 97 percent in the adult occupant protection category, on its way to winning "Best-In-Class" designations in both the Large Off-Road and Overall Performance segments.

Jan Ivarsson, Acting Director, Volvo Cars Safety Centre, commented on the latest recognition, saying: “We are always happy to receive further recognition for the work we do. The XC90 embodies everything that Volvo Cars stands for, and this is further proof of our continuing leadership in the field of both active and passive safety systems. Our vision is that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car. With the latest safety and semi-autonomous drive functionalities in the XC90 we are well on our way to achieving that goal."

The Euro NCAP award is the latest in a string of recent accolades for the XC90, which includes Motor Trend Car of the Year, North American Truck of the Year and the Auto Express Car of the Year to name but a few.
