It's well known that Volvo has historically been dedicated to driver safety, but if you were looking for additional evidence of this fact, we have it for you right here. A recent press release from the Swedish automaker has revealed that Volvo will be one of ten automakers to voluntarily make Forward Collision Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking systems, standard on all vehicles within five years. The resolution comes in the form of an agreement with both the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The two technologies, which have been offered as options for a few years, are already considered in top safety award criteria in other major countries, and Volvo is encouraging regulators to do the same. Volvo Cars of North America CEO, Lex Kerssemakers, issued a statement saying that the two technologies have shown the ability to "significantly reduce the impact of crashes" or "eliminate them altogether."
