A few months ago, we detailed the implementation of the Volvo brand's new Drive-E engine on an S60 model.  This powertrain proved to be super efficient while also managing to churn out a high level of horsepower. Since then, the Swedish automaker has been hard at work and has created the High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept, which has the specs to prove efficiency is possible in a powerful car.

This 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is outfitted with two parallel turbochargers that are fed indirectly through the spooling for a third electric turbo-compressor. This allows for the engine to produce 450 horsepower while remaining efficient.

It has been speculated that this powertrain will be found on the redesigned 2015 XC90, which we expect to join the new Volvo lineup in our Davie, FL showroom early next year. When we have more information, we'll be sure to share it here on the Weston Volvo blog.
